Low Fire Clays:
Chalk Rock/White Earthenware
A talc-free replacement for Earthenware White, for best results, bisque fire to Cone 01.
Terra Blanc
A very smooth porcelain-like non-talc based low-fire white clay that is easier to throw, especially for beginners. Fires to a creamy white at Cone 04. Low shrinkage and great glaze fit.
Unshockable (Raku)
A low-fire white clay with the addition of kyanite for increased thermal shock resistance. Suitable for raku firing and other primitive firing methods.
Terra Cotta
A low fire red clay with heavy grog (30 mesh flint grog) added for texture that fires to a light red-orange color at cone 06 to 05, and a richer, deeper red color when fired hotter, up to about a cone 2.
Red Earthenware
A low fire red clay that fires to a light red-orange color at cone 06 to 05, and a richer, deeper red color when fired hotter, up to about a cone 2.
Mid Fire Clays:
Cone 6 Buff
A medium-range light stoneware body which fires off-white to buff in oxidation and slightly darker in reduction. It has a slight toothy feel from the fireclay but contains no grog which makes it a good general purpose throwing body.
Cone 6 Buff With Grog
A medium-range light stoneware body with a medium grog added which fires off-white to buff in oxidation and slightly darker in reduction.
Cone 6 Bison
This is a reformulation of the original Flint Hills 5/6 Black. Kansas Clay intensified the color and switched to a slightly finer mesh fireclay to reduce the light speckling in the previous version.
Cone 6 Coffee Grind
This is a dark clay body with mild speckling. It’s kind of like a cross between our Peppered Wheat and our Bison. Not as heavily speckled as Peppered Wheat and a much darker base body.
Cone 6 Kansas Wheat
Creamy semi-porcelanious clay body with black flecks throughout, Similar to speckled bmix in appearance and workability.
Cone 6 Peppered Wheat
A mid-fire speckled buff colored clay – the same formula as the new WHEAT clay with added specks that make it look like someone sprinkled pepper on it.
Cone 6 Red Brick Road
A medium-range stoneware body which fires to a warm red color in oxidation.
Cone 5-8 Winter Wind (Porcelain)
An inexpensive medium-range porcelain made from domestic kaolins. Great for someone just learning to work with porcelain within this range. Fires to a creamy white.
Cone 5-6 Pyrite Freckle
Creamy semi-porcelanious clay body with black flecks throughout, Similar to speckled bmix in appearance and workability.
Laguana B MIX 5
A premier, cream-white, throwing clay that is easy to throw and form. Smooth porcelain texture. Fires gray/white in reduction and lighter in oxidation. It is similar to porcelain but it throws like a dream.
Sio-2 PRNI Black Stoneware 27.6 lb package. Imported from Spain.
A black stoneware clay body with a 40% grog that is so fine it’s unable to be felt. Formulated for artistic ceramics, this clay is ideal for wheel-throwing and modeling smooth pieces with fine details. PRNI’s beautiful and intense black firing color in oxidizing atmospheres is unique to the PRN range. In reducing atmosphere, metallic effects with shades of blue can be obtained. Food-safe and suitable for tableware, according to ISO 6486:1999. It has a firing range of Cone 5–6 (2205°F–2269°F).
High Fire Clays:
Cone 10 Domestic Porcelain
A high-fire, inexpensive porcelain made from domestic kaolins. Fires to a cool white with blue-gray undertones as opposed to the yellowish undertones in English Porcelain. This body is especially nice when woodfired. Not suitable for celadon and copper red glazes in reduction due to the presence of titanium in the clay.
Cone 10 Grolleg Porcelain
A high-fire, carefully blended porcelain made from English Grolleg Kaolin. Fires to a warm white with yellowish undertones as opposed to the domestic porcelain which has more of the blue-gray undertones. Great for all methods of firing and suitable for celadon and copper red glazes in reduction.
